These books are about becoming vegan and are full of facts and nutritional information.

VF I have to start out by recommending this book. Vegan Freak: Being Vegan in a Non-Vegan World is what gave me the push to become vegan. If you are interested, read about my reasoning to make the decision here. This book was helpful when it came to dealing with people’s attitude toward me being vegan. It will make you laugh and probably gross you out but still a good read.

If you’re like me you eat what you want when you want without paying attention to the nutritional value. Unfortunately, it’s not recommended to do that while pregnant. The Vegan Pregnancy Survival Guide informed me on all the important nutrition info I needed to know. This book also offers advice on how to throw a vegan baby shower and how to inform hospital staff of your diet. Most importantly it provides a list of medicines that are vegan and safe to consume while pregnant for those inevitable pregnancy symptoms hit you hard. This book is a quick read and a great pocket reference when out and about.

These books are both full of information and yummy recipes.

TKDThis was the first vegan book I purchased. I bought The Kind Diet when I was veg curious even before becoming a vegetarian. I used this a lot in the beginning and still go back to it to make some of my favorite recipes like the Black Eyed Pea Croquettes and Seitan Piccata with White Wine and Capers. My only complaint is that some of the ingredients are hard to find or not available in the US anymore such as Hijiki. Not only is there an abundance of delicious recipes but useful information as well. I learned a lot from this book. It was a nice starter for me.

 

 

MBWMMy Beef With Meat is the sequel to The Engine 2 Diet. The E2 diet is a plant-based diet just like that of a vegan diet but taken to the next level. It takes on a more health-conscious approach. In this book you will find whole food recipes free of added oil and sugar. The author and creator, Rip Esselstyn, is son of Caldwell Esselstyn, whom you may know from Forks Over Knives. These are fantastic cookbooks that were very helpful when we first made the transition.

VFSIf you need tips on how to veganize your favorite omni recipes this is the book for you. It includes multiple substitutions for eggs, cheese, meat, gluen, soy and so much more. It’s full of amazing recipes. We’ve used it so much the spine is getting worn out.

This book was and still is a life saver. Eating right while pregnant is super important, as we all know, The Vegan Pregnancy Cookbook makes is so easy to eat healthy. The recipes are quick and simple to prepare. Each recipe has a key for the amount of important vitamins and minerals every pregnant woman needs to make sure they are getting on a daily basis, such as folic acid and vitamin B12. For the days I just didn’t want to get off the couch this book made dinner worth it.

 

 

 

 

VSCI freaking love this cookbook! I use it at least once a week. The recipes are easy and surprisingly fantastic. The Vegan Slow Cooker shows you how to make the most out of your slow cooker. Not only with soups and stews but casseroles, amazing pasta dishes, and even desserts! Also, I love how everything is labeled gluten-free and/or soy-free. If you’re busy working a lot or caring for a wee one this book is great. Having a slow cooker will save you from eating out or ordering take out on days when you’re too exhausted to get in the kitchen.

 

 

 

IDI Isa Does It is the newest addition to my cookbook family. If you pronounce Isa right it’s a play on “Easy does it!” This book is great for new vegans since she offers a lot of tips and tricks, and the recipes contain easy to find ingredients. With an exception of a few recipes this book is full of simple to prepare dishes that are still packed with flavor. See my full review here.
